Suspected Lyantonde assailant arrested

The police have arrested Nathan Mwebaza, the key suspect in Sunday’s shooting of three family members in Kaliro, Lyantonde district.

Francis Rwabagabo (60 years) and his wife Kellen Nakato (38 years) were shot inside their house in Kaliro trading centre on Sunday night before the gunman raided Rwabagabo’s in-law Leokadia Kizza who was also gunned down at home at Kaliiro III Village, located about two kilometres away.

Mwebaze is UPDF deserter and a son to Rwabagabo.

“The suspect [was] arrested yesterday by the joint security team of the Police Flying Squad and CMI operatives as he tried to  cross into Tanzania through  Ngarama Isingiro district. We also recovered the suspected killer weapon an AK47 rifle, ” police said in a statement on Friday.

Mwebaze allegedly had misunderstandings with his family over a piece of land that he wanted to sell but was stopped by his father.

There is also talk that he has been accusing step mother, Nakato, of bewitching his mother who died recently.
