Parliament closes as Speakers fly out
Parliamentary sittings have this week been called off after both the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah took foreign trips leaving behind no one to chair the plenary sittings.
Last Thursday, Oulanyah adjourned the House to Tuesday August 6 to handle among others, a private member’s bill by the Shadow Attorney General Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa West) to amend the Constitution to introduce electoral and political reforms.
However, a notice by the Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige to the MPs indicated that there will be no plenary sittings till Thursday.
“I am directed to inform you that the said session [of Tuesday, August 6] has been postponed to Thursday August 8 due to unforeseen circumstances,” Kibirige’s communication to the MPs partly reads.
Oulanyah is understood to have travelled to the US while Kadaga who had been in Pakistan has another trip to South Africa.
