It’s time to prove that we mean business – Bobi Wine

Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has unveiled a team that he hopes to rely on to mobilise the country ahead of the 2021 elections.

The MP has in various interviews indicated that he intends to challenge President Yoweri Museveni for the top seat in the next presidential elections.

Bobi Wine is only four years older than the time Museveni has occupied state house.

“On the onset, some people were skeptical, they thought that it was just excitement, they thought that this idea would vanish in thin air but the people of Uganda dismissed those who were skeptical, those who tried to dismiss us,” Kyagulanyi said.

“President Museveni and his praise singers dismissed us as inconsequential but the people of Uganda have proven them wrong,” he added.

Until he successfully contested in the by-election for the Kyadondo East parliamentary seat, Kyagulanyi was not seen as a political figure other than a musician who sung about issues affecting the ordinary people.

He was to later cast himself as a political kingmaker, successfully leading opposition candidates to victory during by-elections.

The turning point was in Arua Municipality last year when his driver, Yasin Kawuma was shot dead before Kyagulanyi himself was arrested and taken into military detention after the state claimed that he was found with guns inside a hotel in Arua.

The military court later dropped the charges and Kyagulanyi was transferred to Chief Magistrate’s court in Gulu where he is jointly charged with 36 others of treason and annoying President Museveni.

“We didn’t set out as experts or even experienced politicians, we set out as ordinary citizens driven by the love of our country,” Kyagulanyi said as he launched his mobilisation team on Wednesday.

He said that he is out to prove that he joined the political scene not simply as a mere spectator.

“People Power is stronger than the people in power even when the people in power are determined to bring out gun power,” Kyagulanyi said.

Greater Masaka coordinator Mathias Mpuuga shares a light moment with other team members shortly after they were unveiled

His mobilisation team is composed of MPs drawn from either side of Parliament.
