Police’s procurement boss thrown out
Embattled Uganda Police’s director of engineering and logistics, Godfrey Bangirana has been ordered out of office.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Martin Okoth-Ochola in a July 19 letter directed Bangirana to leave office since the police authority hasn’t renewed his contract.
“It is on record that you applied to the secretary, Police authority, for consideration of another renewal [of your contract] which hasn’t yet been done. While we await the decision of the police authority, it is only proper that you hand over office to SCP Richard Edyegu who is one of the deputy directors in that directorate,” Ochola wrote.
Ochola gave Bangirana up to July 22 to leave office since his continued stay in office was bound to raise several queries from the head of public service.
The development comes hardly a year since the Inspectorate of Government started investigating Bangirana over allegations of inflated procurement costs on the implementation of police projects notably the construction of Natete police station and the repair of an old police chopper.
