Kampala on tension as Bobi Wine applies for bail

Security forces deployed heavily in and around Kampala ahead of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s bail application.

There is heavy presence of a combined force of the police, military, Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel among other security forces that sealed off all roads leading to Buganda road court.

The situation remained tense as the security and judiciary worked out a plan to avert any anticipated eventualities once the popular music star who has turned into the face of opposition against President Yoweri Museveni’s government,  appeared in court.

The best alternative was to hear the bail application via video conferencing, with Bobi Wine following the court proceedings from Luzira Prison.

The MP’s defense team led by Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa presented told the presiding Magistrate Ester Nahilya that the accused has more than 30 people willing to stand surety for him but present three names “in the interest of time.”

Basalirwa presented former minister Miria Matembe, NRM MPs  Mbwatekamwa Gaffa (Kasambya) and Patrick Nsamba Oshabe (Kassanda North) as Kyagulanyi’s sureties.

“Hon Kyagulanyi is Peaceful man with no history of conviction and he has a young family who solely depend on him,” Basalirwa told court as he argued out Kyagulanyi’s bail application.

The state however raised objections on grounds that keeping Kyagulanyi in prison until the matter is heard and disposed off is the only way the State can guarantee his rights of safety.
