The cause of this year’s run is to contribute to the fight against Sickle Cell disease.

In a short speech, the Kabaka urged couples to test for the sickle cell disease before marriage for a sickle cell free generation.

According to the Ministry of Health, if both parents have the sickle cell trait at each pregnancy, there is a 25% chance that the child will pick the trait from the parents.

Buganda Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga shares a light moment with Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwiine.

The Kabaka also advised parents with children suffering from the disease to adhere to instructions by medical personnel, and also maintain a good diet for the sick children.

He later flagged off the run split in three categories; 21Kms, 10km and 5km.
