NRM youths demand for ‘fair share’ of Museveni money bags
A group of NRM Youth leaders from Buganda region is threatening to camp at State House Entebbe until such a time when President Yoweri Museveni, also their party chairman agrees to meet them and respond to their concerns.
During a meeting convened at the NRM party headquarters at Plot 10 Kyaddondo Road, Kampala, the youth leaders spoke angrily against senior State House officials whom they accused of making the president not easily accessible.
“I am tired of Museveni seeing me in video clips fighting for NRM, I am also tired of seeing him on TV giving out money sacks to some youth groups and nothing to me, it is high time that we went and interface with him and ask him to respond to our dire economic status,” Henry Luzinda, an NRM youth activist from Kasangati Town Council said.
The meeting had been called by Ibrahim Kitatta, the NRM Youth League vice chairperson for Buganda region to give a progress report on the activities undertaken by the youth league over the past four years.
It however turned into a platform for the young politicians to demand for own benefits from Museveni.
“I don’t understand why we show too much love to a person [Museveni] who doesn’t love us. The schools where we take our children are the worst because we are poor, the facilities where we go for health care are not any better,” said John Baptist Mulindwa from Kalungu district.
They said that since the MPs had endorsed his sole candidature, it is time for Museveni to respond to their anti-poverty cries.
“The truth is, I don’t like Museveni as a person because he is not my relative but because he is the President, and he has the money; as he wants to maintain his grip on power, I want his money so that I can also do something for myself,” Alex Ssebuuma from Bukomansimbi said.
Other youths wondered why Museveni was dishing out money to pro-People Power youths in Kampala but ignore NRM youths from other parts of the country.
Since the coming onto the scene of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Museveni given out billions of shillings to youth groups in Kampala specially targeting the ghetto youths, the last being two weeks ago when he gave out Shs 500 million to Kampala youths.
“In next year’s budget, the funds for supporting youth groups were included but the plan is to give the money to youths in urban centres plus some vocal youths and ignore the upcountry youths,” Kitatta said.
The meeting agreed to storm State House and demand to meet Museveni.
