MPs ratify Museveni sole candidacy

Before the NRM MP travelled to Kyankwanzi for their retreat, there were denials that the intent of the retreat was to ratify a resolution declaring President Yoweri Museveni as the party’s sole candidate for 2021.

But immediately the secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba concluded her address to the MPs, a motion was moved that the caucus ratifies Museveni’s 2021 sole candidacy resolution.

Lumumba’s presentation was on a topic “Towards 2021: Milestones & Strategies for the NRM Party”  in which she read to the MPs the resolutions the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) took last month at Chobe Safari Lodge.

Hellen Asamo (PWDs Eastern) moved the motion, arguing that Uganda needs President Museveni now more than ever before for his firm guidance and mentorship of the Party Membership.

She was unanimously supported by the MPs before they took a lunch break.

Sources at Kyankwanzi have also indicated that the MPs are not warming up to plans for another amendment of the Constitution which could dent a big blow to a plan by the Urban development state minister, Isaac Musumba, for an amendment to change from the presidential to the parliamentary system of democracy.
