Gunfire as Police kill suspected Mbarara armed robber
Gunfire rocked Mbarara town as the police battled an armed gang, suspected to have been behind last week’s robbery at a fuel station in Kabwohe township, Sheema district.
The gang has allegedly been operating from a guest house in Kakoba division, Mbarara Municipality from where the gangsters have been planning their raids on businesses in Western Uganda.
Last week, the gang robbed about Shs 24 million at gunpoint from Bam Fuel station in Kabwohe.
On Friday afternoon, the police’s flying squad raided guest houses near the Kakoba roundabout where three men, Abbey Nyonyintono, Patrick Kato and Hussein Odeke whom the police used to trap their ring-leader, Yonah Mbaine.
The trap worked as Mbaine dashed on a motorcycle to meet his colleagues. He however sensed danger when he met an army of policemen near the spot his colleagues had directed him to.
He was shot dead as he attempted to ride-off and escape. He was found with an AK-47 gun number UG PSO 340235607221 with two rounds of ammunition.
His accomplices were transported back to Sheema where the offence was committed, while the Mbaine’s was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary.
