Photo of NRM chief harassing a female cop goes viral

Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza facing wide condemnation on social media after he was photographed with his army guards manhandling a female traffic police officer.

The incident happened on Sunday morning at Seeta in Mukono district after the yet to be identified traffic police at the rank of a police sergeant stopped Kyaligonza’s car for breach of traffic rules.

According Peter Otai, a journalist with the government owned Uganda Broadcasting Corporation  (UBC), the soldiers a U-turn in the centre of the busy Seeta township prompting the police officer to stop them.

Instead, the army men jumped out of their car, a dark blue Toyota Prado and assaulted  the lady cop.

Army spokesman, Brig Richard Karemire tweeted regretting the incident.

“We have been informed  of the incident involving a Police traffic Sergeant and UPDF military Police Soldiers. It is very regrettable and apologies to our Police Sister.UPDF and UPF are establishing the facts .Findings will guide action to be taken,” Karemire stated.

Kyaligonza was part of the NRA rebel outfit that captured power in 1986. He sits on the ruling party’s top most decision making organ – Central Executive Committee  (CEC) that last week passed a resolution declaring President Yoweri Museveni the NRM sole candidate for 2021.
