Three arrested in police raid on journalists homes.

Security operatives last night arrested Vivian Nakaliika Sserwanja wife to NBS TV senior investigative journalist, Solomon Sserwanja.

Vivian, a communication officer with Ministry of Health was arrested because her husband, Solomon, was not home.

“Last night security operatives surrounded the home of Solomon Sserwanja, a journalist with NBS TV. However he was not in the house and has since arrested his wife Vivian Nakaliika Sserwanja,” said the Executive Director Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda (HRNJ-U) Robert Ssempala.Metropolitan police spokesperson confirmed the arrest but declined to give details.

She was arrested with journalists Godfrey Badebe, Kasim Muhammad of the BBC and Rashid Kaweesa a driver.

The journalists are said to have been working on a joint investigative story for the BBC.

“They are being detained at the CPS in Kampala. The police commander for Kampala Metropolitan Area, Moses Kafeero has told HRNJ-UGANDA that it’s a long story,” Ssempala said.

The four suspects are currently at Central Police station (CPS) Kampala in the office of the Officer in charge of Criminal Investigations Joshua Tusingwire.

The hunt for Sserwanja is still on.
