Hearing of age limit appeal kicks off
The Supreme Court has this morning began hearing of the Constitutional appeal challenging challenging the removal of the Presidential age limit.
A panel of seven Supreme Court Justices headed by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe are hearing the appeal that seeks to overturn the Constitutional Court ruling that endorsed Parliament’s deletion of Article 102 (b) from the Constitution.
Others Justices hearing the appeal are, Arach-Amoko, Eldad Mwangusya, Opio Aweri, Lillian Ekirikubinza, Jotham Tumwesigye and Paul Mugamba.
Lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi, six opposition MPs namely, Winnie Kiiza (Kasese Woman), Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda (Kira Municipality), Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West), Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality) and Mubarak Munyagwa (Kawempe South) plus the Uganda Law Society appealed against the Constitutional Court’s judgement that they want the Supreme Court to overturn.
Mabirizi opened the morning submissions accusing some justice of the Constitutional Court of bias especially when they agreed that the Speaker of Parliament can allow the suspension of Rules without following the due procedure as provided by the Constitution and Rules of Procedure of Parliament.
