Entebbe reopens after 10-hour runway mishap

For nearly 10 hours, Entebbe International Airport remained closed to inbound flights after an Ethiopian aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 skidded off the runway as it landed at about 12:41am last night.

The flight ET 338 from Addis Ababa had 139 passengers on board according to a statement from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

All the passengers and crew members were safely deplaned and  taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular clearance process.

A statement from Ethiopian Airlines said the aircraft skidded off the runway by few meter.

“An alternative flight is being arranged to complete the return flight and rebook the passengers, who were booked to travel from Entebbe to Addis Ababa” read part of the statement.

Latest reports indicate that the aircraft was successfully towed  to the ramp.
