Five die in New Year’s day accidents
Two unidentified people have died in a fatal accident at Karuma bridge on New Year’s day.
According to the Police, the accident happened at around 11:30 am when a truck, registration number UAN 533U failed to break and almost rammed into Karuma bridge.
The truck coming from Nuer was loaded with charcoal when it lost control.
Police spokesman Emillian Kayima said, the two victims died on the spot while about three other people were rushed to Kiryandongo hospital with injuries.
At Mpugwe in Masaka, a 32-year-old Ronald Bukenya and his 8-year-old daughter Precious Nalubega died in a hit and run accident.
“A motor vehicle which is yet to be identified hit a gentleman who was crossing the road with his eight year old daughter and both died on spot. The bodies are in Masaka Regional Referral Hospital” said Kayima
In Mubende, a 38-year-old woman Marian Nabalangira and her 11-year-old daughter Edith Namwangu were found dead in their house at around 10 am.
Police suspects that the family died of suffocation from a stove they left burning in the house.
Police also reported an accident involving their own, a police constable whose identity Kayima concealed until the family is alerted.
The fallen officer is said to have fallen off his motor cycle. He was rushed to Mityana hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Kayima further reported a case of theft in which a Boda Boda cyclists was threatened with death at around 10 pm in Nyendo – Masaka along Villa Maria road and his Bajaj motorcycle taken by unidentified male passenger.
Kayima says security was good countrywide and majority of the cases registered are quite negligible.
