Police loses bus to suspected thieves

In what may turn out to be the most daring act of theft, car robbers have stolen from the police at a time when the Uganda Police Force has been talking of heightened security ahead of the Christmas celebrations.

The robbery was announced in a radio message by AIGP Godfrey Bangirana, the Police’s director of Engineering and Logistics.

It was sent out at 12:45pm to the director of Traffic and Road Safety, Regional Police Commanders and District Police Commanders.

According to the radio message, a branded police bus UP 5484 was stolen at about 1am along the Kampala Norther bypass.

“It was last seen on Sunday night at about 1am along the Northern bypass in Kampala. It was driven by Cpl Driver Mwase but attempts to contact him on phone have proven futile,” Bangirana’s message partly read.

Bangirana directed for the impounding of the bus as well as the arrest of its occupants once sighted.
