Buganda crowned FUFA Drum champions

A 79th minute equaliser by Vianney Sekajugo is all that Buganda needed to win the inaugural edition of the FUFA Drum competition, beating West Nile on a 2:1 goals aggregate.

The thrilling game played at the Green light stadium in Arua saw the home team take the lead in the 41st minute through Villa Oromchan.

Having beaten the West Nilers 1:Nil in the first leg, Buganda travelled to Arua looking for a draw to win the trophy and the Shs 35m cash prize.

West Nile took home the runners-up prize of Shs 15m while the semi-finalists, Busoga and Bukedi bagged Shs 5m each.

Acholi, Ankole, Kampala and Bugisu that got eliminated at the quarterfinal stage each took home Shs 3m.

Teams that finished in 3rd and 4th position in the group stages received Shs 1.5m and Shs 1m respectively.

Acholi took another Shs 1m for the fair play award in addition the province’s fan only identified as Joe winning the same amount for being the tournament’s best fan.

Buganda’s Alex Isabirye won the best coach’s cash prize of Shs 1m, the same amount that was given to his goalkeaper Nicholas Ssebwato for the tournament’s best goalkeeper.

The top scorer’s award of Shs 1m went Bugisu’s James Alitho who scored a total of 8 goals.
Ssekajugo too got Shs 1m as he got named the tournament’s most valuable player.
