Bobi Wine faces fresh charges

The police have blocked Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine from leaving the country to seek specialised treatment.

The musician turned politician planned to travel to the USA for treatment following the injuries he sustained when he brutally arrested in Arua and tortured by security forces.

He was on Monday released on bail by the High Court in Gulu and got admitted at Lubaga hospital where he underwent a series of tests upon which he sought treatment outside the country.

His journey was however blocked by police officers led by the director of Criminal investigations AIGP Grace Akullo who arrested the MP.

He was subsequently transferred to Kiruddu hospital in Makindye division.
According to his lawyer, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa, Akullo said that the police want Bobi Wine over fresh charges.

“She (Akullo) said that there is a new case file against him but did not tell us what the new charges are,” Basalirwa said.

But police spokesman Emilian Kayima said that Bobi Wine’s departure was halted because the police wanted to have him examined at Mulago hospital to confirm his claims of having been tortured.

“Today August 30th, 2018, the Uganda Police halted the departure of the Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu at Entebbe International Airport. He has been taken to Mulago International Hospital for a medical examination as he alleged torture,” Kayima said.

“Given the fact that he is on bail, the police is concerned and await for guidance from the relevant government department,” Kayima added
