Abiriga murder: Nambooze charged, bailed

Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke has been charged before the Chief Magistrate’s court in Nakawa of charges connected to the killing of former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.

Nambooze is charged of incitement to commit an offense under Section 21 (1) of the Penal Code Act.

She is alleged to have made utterances and postings in the social media that prosecution deems to be inciting to the public to attack and murder public figures since the government doesn’t care about them.

Nambooze was taken to court after making an appearance at the directorate of Police’s criminal investigations at Kibuli following summons issued by the police on Tuesday.

In court, she was represented by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who asked the trial magistrate to release her on bail.

She was bonded at Shs 5m not cash while her sureties, MPs Moses Kasibante (Lubaga North) and Joseph Ssewungu (Kalungu West) were given a non-cash bond of Shs 10m each.

Abiriga was gunned down on June 8 with his bodyguard a few metres away from his home at Kirinyabigo – Kawanda in Wakiso district.
