Police denies going for bedridden MP Zaake

Police has denounced accusations of trying to grab Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi from his hospital bed at Lubaga hospital.

The MP’s attendants told journalists on Saturday that about five men believed to be security agents attempted to grab Zaake from the hospital.

“They came (on Friday) night disguising as his (Zaake) friends but our suspicion was raised when they started threatening us, and when we alerted the hospital security, they ran away,” Zaake’s brother, Daniel Mugambwa said.

According to Mugambwa, police detectives have also visited demanding that the MP records a statement.

“Imagine in his current state, the police want him to record a statement,” Mugambwa said.

But police spokesman Emilian Kayima said that the claims are merely “political theatrics.”

“There is no security officer from the Police or sister security agencies that attempted to arrest Hon. Francis Zaake from his hospital bed at Rubaga Hospital. These are political theatrics with no basis of truth whatsoever,” Kayima said.

Zaake was dumped at Lubaga hospital gate by unknown men on August 16 in critical condition that he spent some days on life support machine.

This followed his arrest and torture at the hands of security agents in Arua where he had gone with Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine among others to bolster Kassiano Wadri’s campaign in the Arua Municipality by-election.
