Belarus club signs Cranes’ Luwaga
Uganda Cranes midfielder Luwaga Kizito has joined FC BATE Borisov, a Belarusian football team from the city of Barysaw.
FC BATE Borisov signed Luwaga on a season long loan from Romanian club, Politehnica Iaşi FC.
Luwaga who has been in Romania for one season said that this is dream come true as his side in Belarus is part of the UEFA Champions league this season.
FC BATE Borisov are the Belarusian Premier League reigning champions and are the league’s most successful club with 14 titles of which, 12 were won consecutively.
It is also the only Belarusian team to have qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League during the seasons of 2008–09, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2014–15 and 2015–16.
It also qualified for the EUFA Europa group stages during the 2009–10, 2010–11 and 2017–18 seasons.
Luwaga formerly played for Bunamwaya FC (SC Vipers) before moving to Portugal where he played for a number of clubs.
Luwaga becomes the first Ugandan to play in the Belarus topflight league and is expected to make his debut this coming week after being unveiled by the club.
The left winger hopes to impress and make permanent stay in Belarus but also with hope also to succeed to bigger clubs.
Luwaga also is part of Uganda Cranes squad summoned for the upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifier game against Tanzania to be played in Namboole on September 8.
