Onduparaka, Betway part ways

Betway, a betting company announced on Monday that its sponsorship deal of Onduparaka FC had come to an end.

The betting company has been bankrolling the West Nile soccer sensation with a Shs 600m a year package covering players’ salaries, team travels and equipment.

“As Onduparaka FC continues into the 2018/19 season without Betway, we wish the players, management and supporters the best of luck for the upcoming season. Our staff will continue to support the club and celebrate your successes,” read a statement on the betting company’s Twitter handle.

The announcement left too many questions in regard to the future of the club that is preparing for the new season of Uganda’s topflight league.

Betway has been Onduparaka’s biggest source of funding for the last two seasons.

“We would like to thank Betway for its invaluable support to the club and for having helped us to reach thus far. We have indeed been able to benefit immesely from Betway’s Football development strategy. We are optimistic that everything happens for a reason and Onduparaka FC will continue to enjoy it’s presence in the league and it’s partnership with other sponsors,” a statement on Onduparaka’s website reads in part.

Onduparaka now remains with telecommunications giant MTN Uganda as their sponsors.
