Museveni escapes Arua attack as Bobi Wine is arrested

Emerging details show that police and President Yoweri Museveni’s guard unit – Special Forces Command (SFC) turned brutal after opposition supporters pelted his official car with stones.

Senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Innocent Wanyama posted on social media photos of Museveni’s V8 Land Cruiser whose hind windscreen was smashed by the rowdy opposition supporters.

Museveni who was leaving Arua Boma grounds after addressing a campaign rally for Nusura Tiperu, the NRM candidate in the Arua Municipality by-elections ran into opposition supporters who were in a procession from Ezati Kassiano Wadri’s rally.

Wadri was with a group of MPs that included Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi, Ntungamo Municipality’s Gerald Karuhanga, Jinja Municipality East’s Paul Mwiru and Mityana Municipality’s Francis Zaake.

In the melee, some youths pelted Museveni’s convoy with stones smashing his principle car’s windscreen.

Museveni was whisked away but the SFC descended on the town in a hunt for the president’s attackers.

In the swoop, Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead while the Kyadondo East MP himself, a couple of other MPs and scores of ordinary people were rounded up.

The MPs were picked from Pacific Hotel where they were residing.

Several journalists including NTV’s Herbert Zziwa are reported to have been arrested while others are nursing bodily injuries after being roughed up by the soldiers.
