Police, army raid Bugiri hotel in search of Bobi Wine

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, a combined force of the police and the army raided Planet Hotel in Bugiri on a mission to arrest Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

The politician cum musician is in Bugiri for the final campaigns of Asuman Basalirwa, a candidate for the Bugiri Municipality parliamentary seat.

Truckloads of policemen and soldiers started driving into the hotel at about 3am and asked for directions to the room where the Kyadondo East legislator was sleeping.

Another group laid siege at Basalirwa’s home.
Basalirwa who is also the president of Justice Forum (JEEMA) told this website that the armed men did not move into his house but remained camped outside.

At Planet hotel, the manager refused to give police keys to all the hotel rooms and got arrested for disobedience.

The police then went on to break into the hotel rooms and arrested at least 16 people.
Those arrested have been identified as, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro (deputy spokesman DP) Denis Tumuhairwe, Sheriff Ssenyunja (Bobi Wine’s personal assistant), Ramathan Lukwago, Bobi Wine’s official cameraman only identified as Tabs, Ukasha Ssekajja, Joseph Ssenyange, Julius Katongole and Kim Njuba(an aide to Bobi Wine).

Others are, Roy Ssembogga(a former Makerere University guild president), Andrew Natumanya, Sulaiman Kakooza and two unidentified women.

“Our Hotel in Bugiri has been raided by the military and police. Several of my team members are arrested and more being forced to open their rooms,” Bobi Wine said in a tweet.

Finally, the police got to his room but found a well made bed. They search around the room for but could not see him.

Convinced that he was not in, the police went away. The MP later resumed his bed.
