Vipers cruise to CECAFA quarter finals
Vipers has qualified for 2018 CECAFA Kagame club championships quarter finals after beating South Sudanese side Kator 3-0 in their last group A game.
Duncan Sseninde, Steven Mukwala and Yayo Lutimba scored for the Ugandan representatives in the competition to secure a slot in quarter finals.
Vipers SC coach Miguel Da Costa is optimistic that his team will qualify to the next stage regardless of which team they will be facing in quarter finals.
“We have been improving game by game and I think today (on Wednesday) we had a good game,” Costa said.
He added that his first objective was to have the team go past the group stages and its done now.
The tournament defending champions Azam FC topped the group with seven points and Vipers came second with five points.
Vipers FC is likely to face Kenyan representatives Gor Mahia FC depending on the result from the Thursday games.
This is the second time Vipers FC is taking part in this tournament.
Their first campaign in 2011 ended at the quarter finals stage when they were stopped by Tanzania’s Simba FC.
