Age Limit youth escapes assassination attack
At about 7:30pm on Monday evening, four unidentified men pounced on Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha as he arrived at his home at Kasubi in Lubaga division in Kampala.
Kamugisha is a member of the NRM youth group, Kick Age Limitations out of the Constitution (KALOC) that popularised last year’s amendment of the Constitution to scrap age limits.
According to group member Ibrahim Kitatta, Kamugisha’s attackers stabbed him with knifes before disappearing into the darkness.
“He was attacked by four men as he got home, we haven’t established the motive of the attack,” Kitatta said.
Kamugisha was rushed to Kimera Clinic in Kasubi for first aid.
According to Kitatta, the doctors have ruled him out of danger.
Kamugisha is the second among the KALOC leaders to be attacked.
First to be attacked was Samuel Odong who was raided by gunmen as he arrived home in Ngora town council, Ngora district late last year.
The yet to be identified gunmen trailed him from a political meeting he addressed, and he entered his house, the gunmen opened fire.
He escaped unhurt. President Museveni then directed that all the KALOC youths be given security but the presidential directive is yet to be effected.
The attack on Kamugisha comes two weeks after President Yoweri Museveni ordered for the beefing up of security for MPs who promoted the Age Limit amendment.
This followed the gruesome murder of former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga who was among the key promoters of the amendment.
