Man accuses Bryan White of kidnap, torture

Kampala socialite Bryan Kirumira aka Bryan White has been accused of kidnaping civilians and detaining them with the help of security officers.

It is alleged that Bryan White ordered the arrest and detention of Kato Ashraf at Katwe police station from where he threatened to kill him.

In a petition by Kato’s lawyers of M/S Muwanda and Co. Advocates to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Martin Okoth Ochola, Kato was kidnapped for the second time by armed plain clothes persons working for Bryan White and was later detained at Katwe Police station.

“Prior to his detention he was tortured while being transported and later paraded before Kirumira Bryan in the office of the OC CID Katwe who intimidated him and attempted to extract illegal confessions on camera,” the letter reads in part.

It adds that Kato was first kidnapped in December 2017 and severely tortured by the same people and detained at Bryan White’s home in Munyonyo but later released.

“We wonder why Uganda Police continue to keep a blind eye on civilians in illegal use of arms and armed personnel…and especially Katwe police station,” Kato’s lawyer wrote.

“The conduct of police officers seems informal and our client needs urgent medical attention. We have tried to explain to all officers available on duty but they all feared to intervene in a matter where Kirumira Bryan has interest,” the lawyers further wrote.

The lawyers have demanded that their client be released immediately or be transferred to another police station since Katwe police station seems to have been compromised by Bryan White.

“We invite the minister of security to make known the portfolio of Kirumira Bryan [Bryan White] and why he has remained unchecked as he wields a lot of command over security agencies and conducts himself with impunity.”
