UIA boss interdicted over corruption
Uganda Investment Authority Board of Directors yesterday June 26 suspended its managing director Jolly Kaguhangire over a volley of charges.
In a letter signed by Emely Kugonza, UIA Board chairperson, Kaguhangire is accused of six offences including; abuse of office, insubordination, misleading and lying to the board, noncompliance with implementation of the strategic plan in defiance of the directive of the minister of finance and board of directors on the one year implementation.
Other charges are closure of UIA Namanve office without authorisation, serious corruption allegations made by UIA staff which the board say touch on her integrity as the head of the institution.
UIA staff wrote to the IGG complaining about the way Kaguhangire was managing UIA. They accuse her of nepotism, influence peddling, using the institution’s meagre resources for activities beyond those budgeted for.
The letter also notes that a committee has been appointed to investigate Kaguhangire and that at an opportune moment she will be called to defend herself.
“You are accordingly directed to hand over office to Mr Basil Ajer, director SME & STI who will act during the time of your interdiction,” the letter says adding that during her three month interdiction, she will be paid half salary. Kaguhangire has been UIA director for slightly year.
