Police releases Nambooze on bond

Police Wednesday released Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke on bond to allow her get medical attention.

Nambooze’s Police bond letter which was dropped by Police at her sick bed in Kiruddu.

The ailing legislator was jailed more than a week ago on charges of inciting violence and offensive communication after she authored a hard hitting eulogy of former Arua municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.

Nambooze who was first detained at Naggalama police station in Mukono district was to later be rushed to Kiruddu hospital after her health continued failing.

However even after being hospitalised police kept her under its watchful eye denying her even the opportunity to travel to India for her medical review that was due last week for injuries she suffered during the infamous constitutional amendment brouhaha.

This evening Nambooze left for Bugolobi medical center where she is going to be treated as preparation for her to travel to India are made.

Speaking before she was driven away in Parliament’s ambulance, Erias Lukwago, Nambooze’s lawyer said that he was disappointed that Parliament would look on all this time when one of its members was being deprived of her rights. He said police would take full responsibility if anything bad happens to Nambooze.
