Museveni warns NRM leaders against money politics
President Yoweri Museveni has warned his National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders against the use of money in elective politics saying it’s neither practical nor sustainable.
He said this while meeting NRM district chairpersons at State house in Entebbe on Sunday June 24. Museveni said commercialization of politics is the reason there are a lot of grievances among party members, adding that money should only be used in more important issues like transport.
“I have never and I don’t support the use of money in politics,” Museveni said.
In the meeting, Museveni also reiterated his earlier promise of providing vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles to sub county and village chairpersons to ease transportation and mobilization for the party. This followed a reminder from head of branch chairpersons Hajji Sonko Kiganda of the promise the president made about two years ago.
Museveni also blamed lack of internal party cohesion on ideological bankruptcy and lack of income generating activities for the party. He promised to come up economic ventures to improve the party’s resource envelop. He also called for the recognition of NRM district chairpersons in the National order of protocol as well as their facilitation by the central government to help in the mobilization of people to fight poverty.
