Kayihura detained at Makindye
Hardly a day after he told government managed The New Vision that he is a freeman, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Edward Kale Kayihura has proved that he can nolonger enjoy his freedom.
Kayihura who was arrested two days go is now held prisoner at the Makindye based Military Police barracks as investigations into his yet to be disclosed crimes continue.
He is only allowed to access close family relatives and personal lawyers, according to a press statement issued on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Brigadier Richard Karemire.
“The general was indeed flown to Kampala from his farm in Kashagama- Lyantonde district and is being questioned on a matter the details of which cannot at this point be divulged,” Brig Karemire’s statement read in part.
Brig Karemire said that the country will be briefed about any new developments regarding the matter.
Kayihura, the longest serving IGP was relieved of his duties on March 4 and replaced by his dsputy, John Martin Okoth Ochola who has since embarked on the task of cleaning the image of the police.
Several senior police officers who worked closely woth Kayihura have since been arrested, untits such as the Flying squad that have been accused of involvement in criminality have since been phased out.
Reports suggest that Kayihura is likely to face murder and crimes against humanity charges.
