Kabaka condemns rampant cases of murder, kidnap

The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has called upon the Muslim Community to maintain good behavior exhibited in the holy month of Ramadhan.

In his Eid Elfitr message, the monarch said Sheikhs and Muslim preachers have made it clear that man ought to behave in similar fashion as he has been behaving while fasting.

“We ought to display good character, commit to prayer as prescribed in the Qur’an, be humble, respect others and maintain peace among others…it is then that our country shall be known as peaceful and hospitable” Mutebi said in his written message.

The Kabaka also condemned the killings and kidnaps for ransoms that have come to characterize the country lately.

“It is very unfortunate that even after families have paid ransom, their people end up being killed. This is real murder; and the question is; what is the hidden motive?” Mutebi wondered.

“We all know that usually a government is responsible for the safety of its people and their property; we therefore call upon government to do whatever it can to reverse the situation.”

Last week, the country was treated to the shocking news of the shooting dead of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Abiriga and his brother Said Kongo. The maverick NRM diehard’s death adds to the list of a number of people killed in similar fashion like the Muslim clerics, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, prosecutor Joan Kagezi among others.
