FDC denies involvement in Arua chaos

Forum for Democratic Change has denied involvement in the fracas in Arua district that saw mourners destroy property at the late MP Ibrahim Abiriga’s home.

Patrick Amuriat Oboi, FDC president in a statement said the leadership of his party in the region is being wrongfully implicated in the chaos that engulfed Arua yesterday evening.

He said he had particularly been informed that Obongi county MP Hassan Kaps Fungaroo is being hunted by the army. “Last night about 30 military personnel surrounded Hotel Pacific where his car was parked and combed all the rooms in an attempt to find him. Fortunately he was able to escape and the management of the hotel was unable to release his vehicle that the military wanted to tow away,” Oboi said.

He added that he had a feeling that the state in it’s transferred aggression wanted to harm him if they had found him. “It is important that we let the country know as that may serve as a safeguard for Fungaroo,” Amuriat said.

“Our supporters in the region should keep calm and stay away from situations that could land them in unnecessary trouble.”

UPDF spokesman Brig. Andrew Karemire however denies knowledge of such accusations.

Abiriga, a celebrated NRM cadre breathed his last on Friday June 8, after unknown assailants attacked his car showering it with bullets that instantly killed the Arua municipality legislator together with his brother who also doubled as his bodyguard.
