Ethiopian PM to get heroes day medal
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali will be awarded a medal as Uganda marks this year’s heroes day at Our lady of Fatima Catholic Parish, Birembo Primary School Grounds in Kakumiro district on Saturday.
The 42 Ethiopian politician who has been in power for just two months will be presented with the most Excellent order of the Pearl of Africa-The Grand Master which is the highest order that is awarded to heads of state and government.
“The Prime Minister of Ethiopia His Excellency Abiy Ahmed Ali has exhibited a spirit of pan-Aficanism and the medal is awarded to those who joined the struggle to make Uganda and Africa a jabitabl place,” said Esther Mbayo, the Minister for the Presidency.
Abiy assumed office on April 2 after a surprise resignation Hailemariam Desaleng in Febrary 2018 at the height of anti-government protects.
He tops the list of 250 other medalists that will be decorated with either Nnalubaale or Kagera medals.
The Security minister Gen Elly Tumwine who is also the chairman of the National honours and awards chancery, the list of medalists comprises of individuals from different parts of the country whose names were submitted to Resident District Commissioners by people of integrity and approved by a committee chaired by former minister Beatrice Wabudeya.
” For the civilians we give the Nnalubaale medal, and for those who fought for the independence of Uganda will get Luwero Triangle medal will be given to those who participated in the liberation struggle, while those who participated in the 1979 war will get the Kagera medal,” Tumwine said.
The medals, Tumwine said, are given to encourage heroism, patriotism and love for the country.
This year’s national celebrations shall be held under the theme ”Remembering our heroes who kept the faith and fought the fight; the duty to enrich their gains is ours.”
