An entire day without food or drink?
Last week, I overheard a man around the old taxi park in Kampala telling another that for him to spend a day without food or drink, he’d rather commit suicide.
For him, by choosing not to eat or drink anything from dawn to sunset is self starvation.
However, for any fasting Muslim, fasting in the Month of Ramadhan is an act of worship prescribed by Allah.
Quran Chapter two verse 183 Says ” Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may have Taqwa( a state of piety)”
Believers are therefore required to obey Allah’s command and every act of faith earns a believer rewards.
Secondly, like the verse puts it, fasting is an act that could lead someone into a piety.
And Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him said, “The best amongst you to Allah is the most pious of you.”
Fasting is therefore an act of worship and a source of reward to the believing men and women of Islam.
