Cheptegei opts out of IAAF diamond league over knee injury
Athlete Joshua Cheptegei will not be part of any competitive track and field event this year after he realised an injury during common wealth games.
“I got this injury during the 2018 common wealth games but I was able to endure to the finish line, I hope I can recover soon and lead my country in the 2020 olympics preparations,” noted Cheptegei
The 2018 double common wealth gold medalist who has been preparing to be part of this year’s diamond league but he has decided to pull out to nurse his injuries.
“It is so regretful that I won’t be able to run the nike pre classic and other diamond league (competitions) this year because of a knee injury,” Cheptegei added.
The 2018 IAAF Diamond League is in its ninth edition. It is fourteen-leg series of track and field meetings
Currently, Cheptegei is regarded as one of the best track and field athletes especially in 5000m and 10000m after British Mo Farah retired from the two races.
