Ministry of Health yet to start administering cholera vaccines

The Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Acheng has said that the Ministry will start a nation wide roll out of cholera vaccines to fight the current outbreak.

The Minister made the statements today while responding to matters of National importance raised by Busia Municipality MP, Geoffrey Macho.

Macho said several cases of cholera has been registered in his area  and he called upon Government to intervene and save the situation.

“Last week Busia Municipality woke up on a sad note, a lady of 52 years was suffering from Cholera and as per now, we have 10 cases of cholera admitted in health center four; government should give us urgent attention” he said.

Acheng attributed the outbreak to the heavy rains that have gone on for months adding however that the situation is under their control.

“We have also had Cholera outbreaks in the refugee camps, and we are responding adequately,” Acheng noted.

The minister said to date five people have been admitted with cholera.

“The good news is that we have started bringing in the Cholera vaccines, we started with the refugee camps because the numbers we were getting there were quiet many.”

She observed that the Ministry will officially launch the Cholera vaccine in July in Nebbi district and this will be for all the other districts in the country.
