Musoke beaten at AFBC final fight

Uganda’s Reagan Musoke has lost his fight with Algerian Hichem Maouche in the finals of Africa boxing championship (AFBC) in the Moroccan city of Casablanca.

The loss meant that Musoke settled for a silver medal in the flyweight category (52kg) at the 2018 AFBC Youth Men and Women Championships.

The championship was held at Stade Mohammed V Stadium Complex.

Musoke’s silver medal brings to two the number of medals for Team Uganda, the second coming from Muhammad Bunya Mazida who won a bronze medal in the welterweight category.

Uganda sent six boxers to the championship which was also a qualifier for the world junior boxing championships to be held in Argentina.

No Ugandan boxer qualified and their only hope for qualification remains in wild-card champioships.

Uganda boxing federation (UBF) president Moses Muhangi said the performance displayed by the Ugandan boxers in Morocco showed positive strides towards the development of the fame of boxing in Uganda.

“Its a good start in junior boxing and I think as administrators we are on right truck,” said Muhangi.
