Uganda boxing team captain knocked out

Uganda junior boxing team captain Collins Mutyaba has been knocked out of the African junior boxing championship going on in Casablanca – Morocco.

Mutyaba lost to Nigeria’s Bright Okon after all rounds in 60kg lightweight bout.

This has been first time Mutyaba is appearing on international scene. Mutyaba believes this is a good exposure and hopes to build from there.

“The fight would go either way. It was nice competition but when I go back I should train hard to avoid being stuck in first huddle during my next competition,” said Mutyaba after the bout.

Another Ugandan Jaffer Onen lost his bantamweight – 56kg to Ethiopia’s Asrar Bilal.

Uganda has remained with four boxers in the competition with two of them playing today starting 8pm (Ugandan time).

Light flyweight boxer John Fisher Odoch will be up against Algeria’s Faris Djaballah as light welterweight Ugandan boxer Ukasha Matovu will play Cape Verde’s David Pina.

Uganda’s head coach Patrick Rihanda is hopeful today there might be descent results for Uganda.

“I know they watched their colleagues and they are aware of which grounds they lost their bouts so, winning today will be priority to the boxers in ring today,” said Rihanda.
