Uganda ready for Africa junior boxing championship
Uganda national junior boxing team has confirmed participation in the forthcoming African junior boxing championships to be held in Morocco starting May 7.
According to team manager Isaac ‘Zebra’ Ssenyange the team is expected to travel on Thursday evening ahead of the championships.
“Though we have had some challenges as far as funds are concerned but Uganda Boxing Federation President confirmed our participation,” said Ssenyange during the team’s training on Wednesday morning.
Ssenyange could not comfirm if the needed funds were duly secured.
The federation had its bank accounts frozen after magistrate court judge in Mengo gave an order to DFCU bank following a petition by Edrisa Ssekitoleko who demanded that the federation books of accounts be audited by external auditors.
Uganda will take six boxers with Patrick Rihanda as the head coach and he has named Collins Mutyaba as team captain from Zebra boxing club.
The championships will also act as world junior boxing championships qualifiers that will be held later this year in Argentina.
After many years, this is the first time Uganda is taking part in a major junior boxing tournament.
