Kiprotich finishes 5th in Hamburg Marathon

Ugandan athlete Stephen Kiprotich has finished fifth in the just concluded Hamburg Marathon held in Germany on Sunday morning.

In a race won by Ethiopia’s Solomon Daksisa, the 2012 Olympics gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich finished 01 minute and 23 seconds behind the marathon winner Daksisa.

Daksisa crossed the finish line in 2:06:34 to win the prize money amounting to $63,000, however he was below the marathon record of 2:05:30 set by Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge in 2013.

This has been Kiprotich’s first marathon of the year after he skipped the London marathon won by Eliud Kipchoge and the common wealth games marathon.

Kiprotich hopes to take part at least in one marathon before the end of the year as part of his preparation for the 2020 Olympics.

In the last five years, the 2013 World athletics marathon champion has struggled to shine on big stage, winning no major marathon of all he has been taking part in.
