MTV Shuga Launched in Uganda
Reach A Hand Uganda has launched Season 6 of the long awaited MTV Shuga, Africa’s most popular drama series at Sky Lounge Restaurant & Bar.
The night that started as early as 6:00pm saw attendance from not only city celebrities but also revellers all dressed to impress the night.
MTV Shuga is a drama series by MTV Staying Alive Foundation and MTV Base Africa and has been airing since 2009.
Speaking at the event one of the events panelist Barbara Kemigisa the founder of Pill Power Uganda said that most Ugandan youths have taken advantage of how victims look to leave a reckless life.
“Most you think that being positive is cool because when you see us the victims looking good but little do you know what we go through. HIV is not like malaria, it means taking medicine for the rest of your lives,” Kemigisa said.
Kemigisa who wore a dress made out of empty ARVs cans added that, some girls fear pregnancy to HIV.
“When going for family planning always carry a condom too as you are to have sex or else you will miss out on both. You can’t enjoy sex when you are positive,” she added.
Humprey Namibanya the head of Reach a Hand Uganda said, Shuga Season 6 was more about reproductive health and sexual health.
“We’ll explore more issues that affect young people and highlight the reality faced by many adolescents in their everyday lives, as well as the choices they can make to empower themselves,” Nabimanya said.
