Sembabule land row: Police officer kills two
Leo Ogwang number 48737 attached to Sembabule police shot dead two people on Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Joseph Angule 43, and Tabu Egesa,36 both residents of Nkonge village, Kyera Sub County, in Sembabule district.
Ogwang went out of his way after a disagreement between locals and surveyors who were surveying Robert Kasirye’s land which the tenants were opposed to.
This follows a February 26 2018,court order for the surveying of Kasirye’s land comprised on on block 2 plot 17 and 18 measuring 40.85 and 44.51 hectares.
The greater Masaka Regional Police commander (RPC) Latif Zaake directed the district police commander to comply with guidelines issued by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters land protection unit.
Lameck Kigozi the greater Masaka regional police spokesman said, before the surveys a successful sensitisation meeting was held on Wednesday evening.
Kigozi said, the deceased started a fight ordering the policeman to put down his gun lest they shoot him with an arrow. In the ensuing scuffle Ogwang shot down the two men.
Currently,the officer is detained at Sembabule police station whereas the bodies of the deceased are at Sembabule health centre IV for post mortem.
