The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has launched this year’s edition of the Kabaka’s birthday run. Like last year, the focus of this year’s run remains on raising awareness on the fight against sickle cell.
The run is slated for April 8 ahead of the Kabaka’s 63rd birthday.

“First we worked together to tackle fistula and now we are focusing on sickle cells. With strategic and consistent partners such as Airtel Uganda, coca cola and others we shall win the fight against these sicknesses that are claiming lives of very many Ugandans” Mayiga said.

More than 120,000 individuals are expected to be tested for sickle cells on that day free of charge.
“Last year we supported the cause with $30,000 that we handed over to Uganda national laboratory services. This wouldn’t be possible without individuals who associated with this run,” the Katikkiro said.
This is the 8th edition of the run that has become an annual event on the athletics calendar.
Participants will take part in 21km, 10km and 5km according to ones ability.
Over 30000 people took part in the run last year.
