President Museveni flags off Commonwealth team

President Yoweri Museveni has today flagged off athletes who will represent Uganda at the Commonwealth games to be held in Australia next month.

A team of 69 athletes will represent the country in 11 different sports disciplines including rugby, athletics, netball, swimming, boxing and weight lifting.

Games are expected to commence on 4th April and conclude on 15th April.

While addressing the athletes at State House Entebbe today, President Museveni advised the team to be disciplined and good ambassadors of the country.

All athletes allowances have already been cleared.

Notably, Moses Kipsiro, who was the last athlete to win a gold medal from the commonwealth games has this time opted out.

Athletes will depart for Australia in accordance to their games’ schedule starting this Saturday.
